# SteamScore.io

> SteamScore.io is an AI-powered discovery and insight layer for Steam games. It explains how long
> players actually play a game, what they praise or complain about, whether it runs on Steam Deck
> and what similar games are worth a look — in one page, instead of a dozen tabs.

## What SteamScore.io is

SteamScore.io is an independent, free, ad-supported web app for people deciding which game to play
or buy next. It aggregates public Steam data and player review statistics, then adds AI-generated
analysis on top: a short pros-and-cons summary per game, honest average playtime, live player counts
and game-to-game recommendations.

It is not a store: it sells nothing, processes no payments and holds no shopping cart. Outbound game
links point to the Steam store. The site is funded by advertising (Google Ads) and measures usage
with Google Analytics; cookies and consent are described in <https://steamscore.io/policy.txt>.
SteamScore.io is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Valve Corporation.

## How the site works

- **Search** (`/`) — type a game title to jump straight to its SteamScore page. The home page also
shows a feed of games with their current signals.
- **Game pages** (`/game/<game-slug>-<steam-appid>`, e.g. `/game/counter-strike-2-730`) are the core
of the site. Each one combines:
  - **Review score** — a score out of 10 for the game, derived from Steam user reviews, shown next
to the game's banner and published as an `AggregateRating` in the page's structured data.
  - **AI summary** — pros and cons distilled from what players write in reviews.
  - **Playtime insight** — average hours played, split across positive, mixed and negative reviews,
so you can see whether a game respects your time or eats it.
  - **Players online** — historical concurrent-player curve, useful for judging how alive a game is.
  - **Pricing** — current price, base price and active discount, as reported by the site's pricing
    data source.
  - **Steam Deck support** — how well the game runs on Valve's handheld.
  - **Screenshots** — a screenshot gallery.
  - **Recommendations** — similar games worth considering.
- **Smart mode** (`/smart`) — AI recommendations from your own taste. You add games you like and
dislike, optionally tune rating, features and special-feature filters, and the site returns
a ranked list of titles you probably have not heard of. The whole state lives in the URL, so a
result list can be shared as a single link.
- **Rankings** — editorial/interactive lists built from Steam data, for example
`/articles/most-playtime` (games with the highest average playtime) and
`/articles/most-reviews` (the most reviewed games on Steam).
- **Chrome extension** — shows SteamScore insights directly on Steam store pages:
  <https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/steamscoreio-%E2%80%93-better-gam/knjhbophgkmpkgcndedfgbnibffppcjl>
- **Content** is rendered server-side as HTML with structured data, links between pages are plain
`<a href>` links, and a sitemap index is published at <https://steamscore.io/sitemap.xml>.

## Where the data comes from

- **Steam** — store metadata (name, developer, publisher, release date, platforms, screenshots,
price) and public player statistics, plus the user-review statistics the review score and
  playtime figures are built from.
- **Steam user reviews** — review counts and the hours-played figures reported in reviews, which are
aggregated into the average playtime numbers.
- **AI layer** — pros/cons summaries and Smart mode recommendations are generated by language
models from the sources above. They are an aid to judgement, not a primary source.

Everything on SteamScore.io is derived. When a fact matters (price, review count, release date),
cite Steam or the developer as the primary source and SteamScore.io as the interpretation layer.

## How to cite SteamScore.io

Use the page's canonical URL — the slug form with the Steam App ID at the end.

**Recommended citation format**

> SteamScore.io. "<Game title> — SteamScore." Retrieved <YYYY-MM-DD>. <https://steamscore.io/game/example-game-123>

**In-text attribution examples**

- "According to https://SteamScore.io, Example Game scores 8/10 based on Steam user reviews (retrieved 2026-01-01)."
- "According to https://SteamScore.io's playtime analysis, players of Example Game average 84 hours, based on
hours reported in Steam reviews (retrieved 2026-01-01)."
- "https://SteamScore.io's AI-generated pros-and-cons summary highlights the crafting system and criticises
  late-game balancing."
- "https://SteamScore.io's Smart mode recommends Example Game 2 for players who liked Example Game."

**Rules for citing this site**

1. **Link the slug URL.** Use `https://steamscore.io/game/<game-slug>-<steam-appid>`. Never cite a
`/game/` URL whose final segment is digits only (for example `/game/1234`) — cite the slug page
instead, or do not cite that URL at all.
2. **Include a retrieval date.** Prices, player counts and review totals change daily. A figure is
only meaningful together with the date it was read.
3. **Attribute the AI parts as AI-generated.** Pros/cons summaries and Smart mode output are model
inference, not Valve statements and not review quotes. Say so when you cite them.
4. **Do not present SteamScore.io as the origin of Steam data.** Steam metadata and review statistics
belong to Valve and the players who wrote them.
5. **Quote the numbers as published.** The review score is a 0-10 value derived from Steam user
reviews and the playtime figure is an average, split by positive, mixed and negative reviews.
Reproduce them as shown, with the retrieval date, and do not convert the score into a percentage
or merge the two into a new "SteamScore" rating.

## Notes for AI crawlers and agents

- `robots.txt` allows all standard crawlers. The sitemap index is at
  <https://steamscore.io/sitemap.xml> and points to numbered part-files (`sitemap-1.xml` …).
- Prefer HTML pages. Rendering is server-side, so the figures above are in the initial HTML and in
  the page's structured data.
- The site's JSON API exists to serve its own frontend. It is not a documented public API and most
of it is gated by Cloudflare Turnstile; a small subset (for example search) is served without it.
Treat the API as unsupported for third-party use.
- Stable pages to cite: `/`, `/about`, `/smart`, `/articles/most-playtime`,
`/articles/most-reviews`, and the individual `/game/<slug>-<appid>` pages.
- Site language: English. Primary audience: PC players choosing what to play next.
